Please protect this Beautiful Land. Walk softly. Harm no living thing. Harmonize - Blend in. Use only down, dead wood. Cut no living trees. Preserve the Meadows… camp in the Woods. We are caretakers of this land. Everyone sharing makes a strong Human Tribe!
Please Protect the Water Sources by staying out of DELICATE spring areas. Avoid camping, peeing, washing above spring areas. Keep ALL soap out of streams, springs or the creek (even biodegradable soap)! Use a bucket to take your bath 60 feet away from the water source. To be certain of drinking water: boil it! Use the slit trenches or covered latrines - cover your paper & waste with ashes or lime, wash hands. Break the fly/illness connection: shit-fly-food-you! Dig no shitters near water areas or kitchens.
Protect our Health! Use your own cup, bowl & spoon! Wash them after eating and rinse in bleach-water. Visit C.A.L.M./M.A.S.H. if you feel ill - especially if you have a contagious disease - or are injured. Camp Together - Establish neighborhoods. Community Fires only! ~ Each with 5 gallon water bucket and shovel for Fire Protection. If you are the last to leave a fire PUT IT OUT! Watch your gear: Be Responsible ~ “Tempt Not Lest Ye Be Lifted From.” Pets are discouraged but if you must bring them keep them fed, on a leash and out of the kitchens, springs & fights. Clean up their poop. Love them.
!!! PACK IT IN - PACK IT OUT !!!
Cleanup begins when you arrive. Bring in only what is necessary. There is no janitor here…you are the cleanup crew. Separate garbage for recycling. Don’t litter - find collection point. Compost in pits only. Take your trash out of the gathering and drive at least 100 miles before depositing it in an appropriate trash can. Do not burden the local community with our trash.
You are the Gathering! Participate in Shanti Sena, the peace keepers council, and all activities, councils, work crews, workshops. Site Specific Information
Parking will be along a 3 mile road. Please park with all 4 tires off the road. There will be multiple gates into the gathering along the road. Make sure you know which gate you entered. Make sure you follow all the parking advice family shares. There is no bus village, but there are a some pullouts where 5-6 buses can park. Please do not try to access Handicamp parking if you do not have a placard.
Some lakes will be used for drinking water. Please keep yourself and your pets out of our drinking-water-lakes. Other lakes will be available for swimming. Giardia or beaver fever may be present in the lakes. Check yourself, your family, and our pets for ticks daily.
We should be @ approximately 1,100 ft elevation.
Bring solar showers, flotation devices like rafts, RAIN GEAR, jugs of drinking water.
BE PREPARED FOR RAIN!
DRINKING WATER: Bring at least a few gallons of drinking water per person. Save your jugs for reuse and refill.
If you are arriving before June 20, please have your own drinking water. Rumor is their are artesian wells along the side of the road. It will take some time for our water systems to get set up. Be water self sufficient if you come early.
Because we are doing roadside park, folks arriving later may have to walk a few miles. There may or may not be shuttles running around July 1st. However, if someone helps you carry your gear or you catch a shuttle STAY WITH YOUR GEAR. It’s easy to tell someone you’re going to Kid Village (there are 2) and your gear ends up in the wrong place. People operate on Rainbow time so it may take longer than you want for you and your gear to get re-connected once separated. A lot of tents and backpacks look alike. Avoid mistaken identity. If you hope a shuttle, make sure you and your gear are on the same shuttle. If someone offers to carry your gear, make sure you are all walking together. There are no claim check tickets here.
Lost & Found is at INFO. Many of the major kitchens may hold onto things left there for a bit to see if you come back. Retrace your steps.
The closest point to Main Meadow is about 1/2 a mile from the road. Other points at the gathering may be further from the road.
Directions
From Minneapolis/St. Paul, take Interstate 35 north to Duluth, Minnesota (~ 157 miles). From Duluth, take US-2 E approximately 42 miles to Iron River, Wisconsin.
From points east such as Chicago, Milwaukee, and Madison, take Interstate 94 west to Eau Claire, Wisconsin. From Eau Claire take US-53 North approximately 127 miles to Iron River, Wisconsin.
EVERYONE: From Iron River, Wisconsin, take Road “A” south 8.5 miles. Turn left on West Delta Road (Forest Service Road 231). Continue 2 miles. Turn left on Musky Lake Road (Forest Service Road 411). Pay attention to parking rules as they change frequently. Sometimes people remove no parking signs, but the USFS will still ticket or tow your car even if the sign disappeared during the night. Currently it looks like Canthook Lake Road (FS 412) is one way east bound. There are many closed roads in the area. As of noon on 6/14/19, parking is available on FS Road 411 and FS Road 412. For updated info on parking, closed roads, and other closure orders, visit the USFS web page.
If you are coming in after 9 p.m. please make sure you fill your gas tank in Duluth or Eau Claire. Most of the gas stations in the area close at 9 or 10 p.m.
I’ve created a printer-friendly PDF of the directions that you can access here.
