Mike Africa Sr. is the second member of the Move 9 to be released from prison. His wife, Debbie Africa, was released in June. The Move 9 were arrested after the radical black liberation and environmental group’s communal home in Philadelphia was raided in 1978 and a police officer was shot. Seven years later, in 1985, the Philadelphia police dropped a bomb on MOVE’s house, killing 11 people and destroying 65 houses in the neighborhood. MOVE continues to advocate for the surviving MOVE members who are still incarcerated. More information can be found here.
